7.30pm Performance of Messiaen: Visions de l’Amen

Cordelia Williams piano, Jeremy Begbie piano

This work, composed on Messiaen’s release from a prisoner of war camp, where he composed the Quartet for the End of Time, was first performed in a secret art gallery in Nazi-occupied Paris. Tonight’s performance will aptly take place in the centre of  an exhibition of art by Mako Fujimura and Bruce Herman. It explores the meanings of Amen and is in the key of A major, which for Messiaen was the tonality of luminous blue, of the sky and of Paradise.

Tickets: £18 unreserved (£5 student standby)
